Brandon Knight

Brandon first began learning from Ayahuasca in 2009, where he traveled to Peru determined to change his life.  He then spent the next 8 years combining depth psychology work with Ayahuasca, integrating the teachings of this immensely sacred plant and the Shipibo people. Since his first encounter with the Medicine, Brandon has become experienced in helping those from a Western Civilization mindset integrate the teachings that Ayahuasca imparts to us as individuals and a collective.

Peru - January 2018

The Amazon retreat will allow us to explore plant medicine and Ayahuasca healing, while also deepening our connection to community, a fundamental thread to life in the Amazon.  During the retreat we will live much like the local indigenous people – spending all of our time alongside the family of healers; learning about their way of life, the plants and Amazonian cosmology.

The Amazon retreat will take place at the Sierra del Divisor National Park.  Sierra Del Divisor is located in the pristine forest of Contamana (Loreto), Peru.  We will camp inside the park grounds, where we will explore the trails, natural hot springs, waterfalls, and flora and fauna.  This area is sacred to the Shipibo people who believe that the forest there is a place where we can connect with “nature spirits” that can assist us in our healing journey.

During our stay at Sierra del Divisor we will participate in a total of 3 Ayahuasca ceremonies and 2 medicinal plant therapies (such as flower baths and medicinal plant saunas).  We will spend time connecting to nature and learning about the Shipibo culture and healing traditions.  Our loving family of Shipibo healers will guide us during our journeys and teach us about daily life in the Amazon jungle.

About Ayahuasca

The Ayahuasca ceremony is a space for profound healing.  The Shipibo-Konibo indigenous people of Peru follow the healing traditions of their ancestors, in which the Maestro (master healer) administers healing songs called “icaros” that lead us on a journey deep within ourselves – liberating us from the negative energies (or illnesses) that harm our mind body and spirit.

About the Shipibo People

The Shipibo-Konibo are a group of indigenous people that live in the Peruvian Amazon.  They have maintained their cultural practices and system of living for at least 3,000 years, and have strong spiritual traditions rooted in the ways of their ancestors.  The Shipibos have a very close connection to nature and believe that all elements of the natural world have a spirit.  In particular they believe that we can acquire the ability to communicate with these plants through traditional practices (ceremonies and plant diets), and that we can learn many new things from these “plant teachers”.  Experienced Shipibo healers have learned how to work with this “intelligence” through lifelong apprenticeship with the elders and “plant teachers”.

Our Guides

Maestro Armando

Maestro Armando has worked with Ayahuasca and other Amazonian plant medicines for at least 40 years.  He has studied numerous species of medicinal plants found in the Amazon by completing traditional Shipibo "plant diets" and apprenticeships under his elders.  Maestro Armando lived in the remote village of Vencedor on the Pisqui River for the majority of his life, where he dedicated his time to healing the people of his village.  He currently lives in the city of Contamana, where he has a healing lodge and beautiful medicinal garden. He welcomes others to learn about Amazonian plant medicine and traditional Shipibo-Konibo healing pratices.

Chonon Kate (Jasara)

Chonon Káte (Jasara) is a retreat facilitator and Spanish-English interpreter for Chaikoni Sacred Medicine's retreats. She has been working with Maestro Armando and Maestro Reshin Bima for the last seven years. Chonon has had the unique experience of having created a family and built a home while living in the Amazon in a Shipibo village. Her experiences living side by side with the Shipibo people have inspired her to encourage those seeking healing or apprenticeship with Amazonian plant medicine to travel to the native communities in order to live and learn the sacred ways as they have been passed on for generations.
